This program will include three sessions addressing new plan changes, plan design and plan correction: (1) In the session on the SECURE Act we will not only discuss the changes, but also how to apply those changes to retirement plan administration; (2) In the Cross-Testing session, we will answer the difficult plan design and testing questions. (3) Finally, we will discuss how to determine which of the many EPCRS correction options applies to plan elective deferral failures.

Speaker: Stephen W. Forbesm JD, LL.M

Stephen is an ERISA attorney with 33 years of experience teaching, practicing and writing in retirement plan areas. He has written many articles and technical updates on all aspects of retirement planning. He is a former vice president of SunGard in charge of Relius Education. Prior to Sungard, Mr. Forbes was a vice president with Pension Publications of Denver. He was also an adjunct professor at the University of Denver Law School, Graduate Tax Law Program where he taught the course on pension and profit sharing plans.


Ethical Conduct for Retirement Plan Professionals

This session will address ethical conduct involving social media, new technologies and other situations faced every day by retirement plan professionals. The session will start out with a brief overview of the principles contained in the American Retirement Association Code of Professional Conduct and the duties and responsibilities of practitioners under Circular 230. This will then be followed by round table discussions of case studies using actual facts to highlight the types of ethical dilemmas that we face every day.

This presentation satisfies ASPPA’s CE credits for Ethics.

Chuck is a Shareholder of Maddin, Hauser, Roth & Heller, P.C. located in Southfield, Michigan, who has practiced primarily in the areas of employee benefits and taxation. He is authored numerous articles appearing in legal and other professional journals. Chuck has lectured extensively on qualified retirement plans and other tax topics before the Michigan Institute of Continuing Legal Education, the Michigan Association of Certified Public Accounts, ASPPA, and other professional groups.
